The Dr. Erich Ritter Foundation has initiated the Water Monitoring Award in cooperation with the Water Science Alliance. The award is an early career award and honors young researchers developing new or complementary monitoring concepts as well as innovative field measurement methods in the field of water research. The prize is endowed with 50,000 € and was awarded for the first time in 2017 to Florian Wagner.

In the project, multiple geophysical methods were combined in petrophysical and process-based inversion workflows for the quantitative estimation of water saturation based on geophysical measurements. The award ceremony took place during the 8th Water Research Horizon Conference in Hamburg, Germany, on September 19, 2017. The conference is hosted by the Water Science Alliance, which is a platform for strengthening interdisciplinary water research in Germany, focusing on the creation of synergies between its key players, the development of innovative research ideas, and the promotion of early-career scientists.
